RecuperaBit for NTFS reconstruction

Post by Lazza » 09 Jan 2017, 15:30

I would like to suggest the inclusion of RecuperaBit, which is an open source (GPLv3) licensed software I developed as part of my MSc thesis on damaged NTFS reconstruction.

The software is available here:
It's written in Python and so it should be very lightweight on the final ISO image.

Given that it's currently the only open source program that can extract data from seriously broken NTFS partitions, I thought maybe you could consider including it. It can be installed by putting it into a directory (I guess /opt is good) and then symlinking the file to /usr/local/bin/recuperabit.

The forensic Linux distro CAINE already included it into its latest release.

Thank you for your attention.

I would suggest, that you try to get it in the portage tree of Gentoo first. If I am not mistaken, no software is included in SystemRescueCd, that is not also available in Gentoo.
