It's hard to comprehend how 'acpi=off' couldn't work.
Its a SCENIC xL with Phoenix BIOS 4.6.
It contains a function to shut down the monitor at bios level.

If the alternate kernel had PM disabled, that would be good enough for me. Unfortunately for me, I work with quite a few older (P4 era) HP/Compaq and Dell PCs that have extremely limited settings for power management in the BIOS (if any). I'm sorry for any issues my request may have caused others.

I know we all would like to have one solution that will work for all users, but as new hardware becomes more common, and older hardware is less common, it probably makes more sense to support the more common hardware with the default settings.

Thank you again for this invaluable tool, and the ongoing support for all users.

In 3.7.1 sleep is enabled again. It dont crash on my critical Hardware.
Also the bootcommands apm=off and acpi=off work well.
