shrink sysrescd size

Postby vieri » 05 Mar 2014, 18:16

The initial iso file size is quite big for my purposes (booting a live system via PXE) and I'd like to make it as small as possible.
Ideally I'd like to reach the size of a slitaz distro but I'd be happy with 80MB.
I only need X, no fancy window manager, with just 1 GUI app: rdesktop.
I'd like to trim everything out.

Does anyone have a list of sysrescd packages I can "safely" emerge -C without breaking the system?
I suppose I can remove Xfce and still launch X so I can have rdesktop. Same with gnome packages.

I checked equery list * and took a look at rdesktop's ebuild.
It's dependencies seem to be:
dev-libs/openssl
x11-libs/libX11
x11-libs/libXext
x11-libs/libXau
x11-libs/libXdmcp
media-libs/alsa-lib
media-libs/libao
net-libs/libgssglue
media-libs/libsamplerate
sys-apps/pcsc-lite
virtual/pkgconfig
x11-libs/libXt

Would it be simpler and cleaner for me to just run:
sysresccd-cleansys x11tools
from within chroot and then 'emerge rdesktop' so it pulls back in whatever it needs?

Thanks,

Vieri
