Newbie needs help.

Postby Oskarl » 22 Nov 2016, 21:25

Hi,
I was hoping someone here could direct me to what manual section to read, or which tool to use to repair a raw hd, on a windows comp, w/o backing up the data(hopefully doing this without loosing the data).
Never used linux and am not a very strong programmer.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

I am not an advanced user but as far as I know, there is a tool in "recovery tools" (see here: https://www.system-rescue-cd.org/System-tools) called "TestDisk" which is for recovering lost partitions and deleted files. There is also "PhotoRec" (from the same developer) specialized in recovering photos etc.
Guides on how to use this two tools you can find in http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/ the author's wiki.
Specially:
- http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk if you want to recover a partition you lost or,
- http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec if you want to recover deleted files.

hope this is a starting point
