FAT32 Micro SD card [solved]

Postby gatorback » 02 May 2015, 03:36

My Blackberry can not access the SD card. Attempt to access the card from Win7 also failed. GParted indicates the SD card's filesystem is FAT32. I have attempted to mount:

>> mkdir /mnt/sd
>> mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt/sd

Error message: "mount: /dev/mmcblk0p1: can't read superblock

Is there any non-destructive test that can be performed on the card? I think there are photos on the card that I would like to avoid deleting. Actionable diagnostics and solutions are appreciated. Thank you.

If you get io-error at a valid location it is a hardware problem.
View dmesg to see what goes wrong.

make a working copy with ddrescue in case the card is readable.

photorec can recover the photos without accessing the filesystem.

Merci beaucoup Gernot! I look forward to visiting your fine country next month: Liberté, égalité, fraternité.

I was able to recovery 140 photos. Not sure why the Sandisk micro SD failed, however, I am relieved / thankful that I could recover the photos!
