Thank you for this post. I had to add the following in order to boot from a raid1 partition:

# md raid
BLKDEVICES="$BLKDEVICES /dev/md* /dev/md/*"
Would be cool if someone could include it to a next release :)

last night I worked out a similar way to boot via PXE.

I dont use NFS, so no need to recompile a kernel.
