Re: iostat stops reporting IO after 2TB

It is the same in v4.9.3. I guess it is a limitation of the 32 bit API used by the 32 bit userspace apps. Details: - count stops at 2TB with 64 bit kernel - with 32 bit kernel, it wraps around to zero each 2TB (I guess it is 2TB as I was not around to see the exact moment of wraparound, I just saw t...

iostat stops reporting IO after 2TB

I am running a long dd copy on a large 5TB disk (sda).
After I while I noticed that "iostat 2" prints 0 kb/s for sda, even if transfers are in progress.

The tps value is updated, but read/write speed and amount read/written is all 0.

I'm using v4.8.0 64 bit (kernel 4.1.27).

Re: lrzip does not work on device files

Thanks for the insight.

lrzip needs access to the entire file to be efficient. (stdin works too, but in a limited mode)

I'll discuss the issue with upstream.

lrzip does not work on device files

Hi! Did anyone try using lrzip to compress a device file, like /dev/sda? For example: lrzip /dev/sda -o /mnt/backup/sda.compressed For me it just creates a 66 byte big file that decompresses to a file with 0 length. I'll try it with other distros later, in the meanwhile I'm interested in other users...

X11: Dual monitors with extended desktop mode? [TIPP]

Is extended desktop mode supported? I booted sysrescd 4.5.4 on a laptop that had an external monitor connected and started X. In the Display preferences, both displays are detected and I can select a resolution for each. But both show the same image. I could not find an option to enable different co...

Web browser/font issues

Hi! I booted v4.5.4 to do some system rescuing and during long copies I started up X ("startx") and opened the web browser. I noticed two things quickly: - it has bad support (either its JavaScript implementation is bad or websites are just too picky). For example Google Drive ( https://ww...

Re: LZ4 - Extremely Fast Compression Algorithm

lz4 seems included now (at least it is listed on http://www.sysresccd.org/Detailed-packages-list )

http://www.blosc.org/ seems like an interesting alternative (supports multi-threading).

rtsx drivers not available at boot

See: http://www.sysresccd.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5490 The rtsx_* kernel modules for Realtek flash card readers is available for the alternative kernel (3.17.8), but not in the initramfs image. So booting from SD cards in such a reader still fails when it tries to find the sysrcd.dat file...

4.5.0-beta ChangeLog?

Is there a changelog file for the beta, like for the release ?

This page has a section titled "Changes in SystemRescueCd beta", but it is empty.

Regards,
David

Re: Realtek card reader not recognized

To clarify:
in kernel v3.15 the staging driver rts5139 was removed and the new rtsx_usb (config MFD_RTSX_USB) driver was added.

Re: Realtek card reader not recognized

It does not work with Ubuntu 14.10 either (kernel 3.16.0). This turns out to be not true. At least in 64 bit version the reader works. (the first test I did was maybe 32 bit) It seems the culprit is the rts5139 kernel module. It is/was in the staging area and not built for the distros that I mentio...

Re: Realtek card reader not recognized

It does not work with Ubuntu 14.10 either (kernel 3.16.0).

So maybe it is a regression in the kernel itself.

Realtek card reader not recognized

Hi! I installed v4.4.1 to an SD card (from Windows, then from Linux, with same results). After booting, it can not find the SD card. (so it does not finish loading) I also booted it from an USB stick, and tried to Access the card reader from there, also without success. I tried 32 and 64 bit kernels...
