USB install fails with rmdir /var/tmp/usb_inst.tmp not empty

Postby stefh » 22 Oct 2012, 09:51

Hi everyone! :)

I can't install the iso on my usb key. When i launch bash ./usb_inst.sh, as described in the doc, just after i select the drive and enter ok i have the following return error message:

rmdir: échec de suppression de « /var/tmp/usb_inst.tmp »: Le dossier n'est pas vide

For you english readers, it means, according to googleTranslate:

rmdir: failed to delete "/ var / tmp / usb_inst.tmp" The folder is not empty

Can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance! If you need more informations about my system, just ask, cause i don't know what you may need to help me.

Ps: i'm french, i hope my english is understandable enough.

Which version use you? In message 13 is a workaround for older syrcd.

Hi gernot, i've downloaded SystemRescueCd-x86-3.0.0 on sourceforge where i went from the link of that page -> http://www.sysresccd.org/Download

Thanks for the link to the thread! Should i try to edit the file as described in message 13? I ask that because you say it's a workaround for older version, but it seems that i have the latest...

Have a look in the directory after the error message.
There you see which file is residual.

At the moment is done hard work on usb_inst in current beta.

Yes the residual file is syslinux.exe

As i've seen in the other thread usb_inst has to be edited to work properly...

Mine says, at line 62:

Code: Select all

rm -rf ${TMPDIR}/{parted,install-mbr,mkfs.vfat,syslinux,dialog,mtools,mcopy,mattrib,mmove}

killerrex says to change that line to:

Code: Select all

rm -rf ${TMPDIR}/{parted,install-mbr,mkfs.vfat,syslinux,syslinux.exe,dialog,mtools,mcopy,mattrib,mmove}

It seems that's the only solution i have...

But i don't understand well how to make rightly the new iso from the files.

I've tried that:

* uncompressed systemrescuecd-x86-3.0.0.iso
* edited usb_inst.sh
* used genisoimage to create an iso from the folder

The app start when launching usb_inst.sh, but stop after i enter ok when chosing the drive, bringing me back to the prompt.

I don't know well genisoimage (which i've never used until today).

Edit:

i've tried the 3.1.0-beta, but it fails exactly as with the iso i created: brings me back to prompt once i've entered ok after chosing the drive.

Do you have any advice Gernot? I'd like to have sysresc on my usb key, cause it's a great tool! :)

No, because i think something interfere with your host OS.

Can you boot sysrcd from CD or with grub via isoloop?
Then use sysresccd_usbstick or usb_inst from the running sysrcd.

Yep, that's the conclusion i came to after reading the doc on the site. I've made a cd, and it boots and runs normally (except for the dual screen, i didn't managed to make them not clones (i just want one extended desktop on two screen)). The next step is to install on the usb key from the live cd.

Thanks again for your help. :)
