save ~8MB RAM while startup

Post by gernot » 16 Apr 2011, 10:01

I read that busybox insmod can be compiled to load compressed kernelmodules.
The rootfs use after unpacking the initrd 30.7 MB. After gzip /lib/modules(14Gb uncompressed ) 23GB.

Has the used busybox such a compiletime option?

Thanks for this suggestion. Have done that change in sysresccd-2.3.0-beta001
busybox/modprobe does not support option "-b" which we need, so have recompiled the proper module-init-tools in static mode.
And it seems to work with all kernel modules being gzipped in the embedded initramfs.
