ZSTD compression

Post by bugmenotplease » 08 Feb 2020, 22:49

Here's a new avenue to explore for you, Francois.

You're currently compressing the image using XZ which offers a great compression ratio however it's really slow to decompress especially on weak hardware.

Please look into ZSTD. It offers comparable compression however it's up to 100 times faster during decompression which could make booting from SysRescueCD a much faster process (especially when you copy it to a USB drive).

Thank you again!
