Booting SyRescCD in PV XEN [solved]

Postby cm » 24 Jul 2011, 07:58

(my tests were done with 2.2.1)

The kernel needs to be unpacked (is compressed with lzma and xen may know only about gzip). So
get http://www.kernel.org/home/ftp/pub/scm/ ... t-ikconfig
, edit the sh file and comment '#trap "rm -f $tmp1 $tmp2" 0' , then execute it with the sysresccd kernel as arg.
It will make file in /tmp , something like this:

ls -lat /tmp/ikconfig24519.*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 97624 Jul 24 10:16 /tmp/ikconfig24519.1
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 25361048 Jul 24 10:16 /tmp/ikconfig24519.2

the big one is the uncompressed kernel, use that for booting in PV XEN (I am not aware of a easy way to pack
it back as a gzip)

Then we need init to also search for /dev/xvd*

# md raid
BLKDEVICES="$BLKDEVICES /dev/md* /dev/md/*"
+#xen pv
+BLKDEVICES="$BLKDEVICES /dev/xvd*"

Also we need xen-netfront.ko in initramfs (which I think is into the kernel file , not in initramfs.igz?)

Also hopefully the nostart patch can be included to give more control on what starts and what not at boot :)

Thanks these two changes will be in sysresccd-2.3.0-beta006 (BLKDEVICES and xen kernel module in initramfs)
