netboot without TFTP server

Postby richard » 24 Dec 2010, 13:26

Hi,

It can be practice to boot over network without a TFTP server, when you have more machines to start up for example.
We can boot with only a http server and gPXE (gpxelinux.0 or netboot in syrcd)

In the dhcpd.conf file you have just to modify the filename option :

Code: Select all

[...]
filename "http://192.168.1.5/start_http.gpxe";
[...]

I give you two little gpxe scripts, one for only a web server...

Code: Select all

# file /tftpboot/start_http.gpxe
#!gpxe
kernel http://192.168.1.5/rescuecd setkmap=us netboot=http://192.168.1.5/sysrcd.dat
initrd http://192.168.1.5/initram.igz
boot

...and one for nbd server and web server

Code: Select all

# file /tftpboot/start_nbd.gpxe
#!gpxe
kernel http://192.168.1.5/rescuecd setkmap=us netboot=nbd://192.168.1.5:2000
initrd http://192.168.1.5/initram.igz
boot

You just have to boot your clients with gPXE (netboot option in sysrcd).

Bye,
