Using Sysresccd to recover files from failed Hard Drive

Postby SOK » 16 Jun 2015, 21:26

Hello,

I am a complete novice on this, but trying to retrieve files from a failed Hard Drive on an inspiron i5 Dell laptop running Windows 8. Unfortunately not recently backed up. (am not sure I am in the right area)

I have prepared a bootable USB from sysresccd and used this to Boot up, which seems to have worked successfully (according to the Sysresccd tutorial)

I am stuck on the next part ...I have detected the partitions, but they do not read like the example in the tutorial. I have tried entering similar to the tutorial, but it will not work.

Can anyone help with advising what these mean, and if it is possible to mount windows/how to?

For Device I have
[loop0]
[sda1]
FileSYS:
[squashfs]
[vfat]
Label
[<unknown>}
{SYSRCD-4_5_]

Thank you

What get you with
fsarchiver probe
and
cat /proc/partitions

If you get only one drive (sda) and not (sda, sdb) try

dmesg and search for information about the harddisk
dmesg|less is handy for this. (q=exit)
