Thanks for this video.

Im not sure if the testset is ok. You try to repartition device with mounted partitions. At least the iocontrol to reread the partitionstable gives an error.

Independent of this it looks like a bug in the new partimage because the messageboxes.
Your working CD use an other version. Sysrcd 1.6.0 is the first with partimage 0.6.9.

get you an errormessage with dmesg ?
If i find time i try to use strace to check what is going on.

I found time...

I got the same messages, but it "looks" like the partitiontable is written. After this the kernel fails to reread the partitiontable via ioctl.
!!!!! although it looks like the partitiontable is written, but its not real done. !!!!

Code: Select all

open("/dev/sda", O_RDWR|O_LARGEFILE)    = 7
flock(7, LOCK_EX|LOCK_NB)               = 0
fstat64(7, {st_mode=S_IFBLK|0660, st_rdev=makedev(8, 0), ...}) = 0
mmap2(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0xb7778000
write(7, "\3721\300\216\330\216\300\216\320\274\0|\373\374\211\346\277\0\6\271\0\1\363\245\352\35\6\0\0\210\26\0"..., 512) = 512
ioctl(7, BLKRRPART, 0x1)                = -1 EBUSY (Device or resource busy)

I dont had a partition mounted.

gernot

p.s. is it the flock(7, LOCK_EX|LOCK_NB) who disables BLKRRPART ?
p.p.s. is it the missing close(7) who prevent writing the block?
p.p.p.s I compared the source of src/client/misc.cpp 0.6.8 and 0.6.9 it looks as there is no change in write and ioctl.

There must be also a problem while creating the imagefile.
Using 2.0.0 with alternate kernel to restore:
Fail with sizewarning and busy-error. MBR not alterd.

Using 1.5.6 with partimage 0.6.8 the imagefile from 2.0.0 p. 0.6.9:
No error, but sizewarning. The MBR is not restored.

Have you actual lost your partitiontable?
You can recreate the partitiontable using "testdisk" to find partitions on the disk.
You can use "ms-sys" to create a new masterbootrecord.

Want to recover files from a partimage backup?
Use fdisk and create the partition manual.

addendum:

The function restores only 512 byte MBR with the bootblock and data of the 4 primary partitions in it. Here can you read more.
http://www.partimage.org/Partimage-manu ... tion-table

The logical partitions are not saved.

I dont understand your last posting.
Get you the error after restoring the windowspartition?
Used you the same SYSRCD to backup and restore?

Make sure to create the target partiton and set the filesystemtype first, then reboot, then restore the data.
Use gparted to calibrate the filesystem.
