software for hard disk tests: badblocks? [solved]

Postby LAZA » 25 Sep 2012, 15:27

I got problems with an hard disk, but smartmontools got me no error or hint(s), what the problem could be.
Version: 2.8.1

So i would prefer to get another tool for testing hard disk and their surface.
The only one i know is badblocks, so other suggestions are also welcome...

P.S.: BTW, Midori reach version 0.4.7, so this would be also a "nice have to" for the next version of systemrescuecd...

Yes, badbocks works well and is on sysrcd.
Some time ago i used dvdisaster for DVDs but i think because the used X interface it is not good with sysrcd.
mhdd is a floppyimage on sysrcd which work well for IDE harddisks.

Another option is to look at the manufacturer's website and see if they offer a bootable ISO with their own proprietary tool on it. Many times this can pick up things that are not SMART supported/reported.
