gateway=IPADDR boot command line option triggering DHCP

Postby mf » 07 Aug 2010, 15:29

Hello,

When I specify the boot command line option gateway=IPADDR, it triggers DHCP IP address discovery even though I specified the address using the eth0 option. I think this is a bug.

Workaround is to re-configure network setup after System Rescue CD boot completes.

Output from testing with 1.5.8 follows.

Thanks,
Mike

----
boot: rescuecd docache setkmap=uk eth0=192.168.1.2/24

>> Performing the network configuration...
netconfig1: found option eth0=192.168.1.2/24
netconfig1: netmask_shorttolong(24)=255.255.255.0
netconfig1: configure eth0 to 192.168.1.2/24
netconfig1: ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 --> 0
>> Searching for /sysrcd.dat on devices...

Works as expected.

----
boot: rescuecd docache setkmap=uk eth0=192.168.1.2/24 gateway=192.168.1.1
(with network lead temporarily removed)

Here are the ethernet interfaces found on your system:
* eth0: 00:0C:76:DC:06:F9
netconfig1: found option eth0=192.168.1.2/24
netconfig1: netmask_shorttolong(24)=255.255.255.0
netconfig1: configure eth0 to 192.168.1.2/24
netconfig1: ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 --> 0
--- eth0: link=on-link, mac=00:0C:76:DC:06:F9
Cannot get a DHCP address. Check the cables on the ethernet interfaces.
--- eth0: link=on-link, mac=00:0C:76:DC:06:F9
Cannot get a DHCP address. Check the cables on the ethernet interfaces.
--- eth0: link=on-link, mac=00:0C:76:DC:06:F9
Cannot get a DHCP address. Check the cables on the ethernet interfaces.
--- eth0: link=on-link, mac=00:0C:76:DC:06:F9
Cannot get a DHCP address. Check the cables on the ethernet interfaces.
...

Didn't expect specifying gateway to trigger DHCP address lookup.
