wicd?

Postby strowi » 06 Jul 2010, 07:38

Hi,

just a quick suggestion... why not replace the big buggy NetworkManager with wicd ( http://wicd.sourceforge.net/ )? It it much smaller and has less deps and does all thats needed...

Network-Manager has many dependencies but it only added 2MB to the ISO images as many dependencies are also required by other apps anyway. I tested wicd but I did not like it. And wicd also has many dependencies and is implemented in python. I prefer the native Network-Manager which works well and which has not such a bad impact on the size of the ISO image.

I see, i get your point. I guess i will have to overcome my personal feelings against networkmanager.;)
Another suggestion then: How about adding the networkmanager-vpnc plugin? Shouldn't add that much to the sqfs since vpnc is already on it.

Yes there is a gentoo package for it.
http://packages.gentoo.org/package/net- ... nager-vpnc
I will see if it can be added to the next beta.

hi,

i just tested 1.6.0-beta002, which shows networkmanager-vpnc is installed, and the tab for vpn is there, but it is impossible to add a new vpn-connection... the buttons are all greyed out.
Or is this because of the root-user?
