info to prevent my mistake

Post by justlearning » 04 Jan 2010, 11:27

Hi,
New to the forum but just wanted to share a mistake on my part that hopefully will prevent someone else tearing his/her hair out.
I have a dual boot set up with XP and Kubuntu running happily together untill I tried to fit another drive to the system.
Set the drive Jumpers (or thought I had!) and turned on. Symptoms.... can see all 250 gig under linux but only 32 gig under windows?
Used the rescue cd as I have before to help with HD problems and using gparted "sees" the correct size and formats ok.
restarted machine and in linux all okay but in windows cannot see more than 32 gig?
The problem.... I had set the jumper to slave BUT the drive (Samsung SP2514N) has a setting for .....yes you guessed it <32 gig.
The confusion came from the fact that gparted could see all the drive but windows couldn't.
That'll teach me to double check the jumper settings in future.
