how to safely unplug a usb hard drive

Questions about problems with your hardware. For example, if you the kernel hangs during boot because of an hardware failure or if you have a problem with a driver not working or missing.

how to safely unplug a usb hard drive

Postby Rumcajs » 05 Jul 2018, 14:08

Hi All,

a simple unmount and then remove the drive will not be enough, because the drive is still powered and spinning.

On my Linuxbox (Archlinux) i have found a solution like :

udisks --detach /dev/sdX

But udisk is not included on srcd

this should works also to :

udisksctl unmount -b /dev/sda1
udisksctl power-off -b /dev/sda

But udisksctl is not included either

What is the proper way to do this with srcd?

Thx

Cheers
