SPARC console problem

Post in this forum for problems at boot time, if there was no problem for burning the disc. For example can't find the CD, or strange errors when you press enter at the very first prompt.

SPARC console problem

Postby abocaman » 15 Nov 2011, 10:28

Hi guys,

this part of the forum seems abandoned. Well, I'm triying to boot a Ultra-Sparc 2 from the past with the rescue cd, everyhing wotks perfect until the prompt is showed. I can write but I don't see echo. If I press CTRL+R it show me this screen:

=========== SystemRescue-Cd ----- v0.4.0-sparc ========= ttyS0/6 ==
Homepage:............http://www.sysresccd.org/

* Type net-setup eth0 to specify ethernet configuration.
* If you have a corporate ethernet network, you can configure by hand:
- ifconfig eth0 192.168.x.a (your static IP address)
- route add default gw 192.168.x.b (IP address of the gateway)
* To start an ssh server on this system, type /etc/init.d/sshd start.
You will need to create an user or to change the root password with passwd.
* Available console text editors : nano, vim, joe.
* Graphical web browser in the console: links -g www.web-site.org.
* WARNING : Never mount anything on /mnt! It would freeze the system.
Use mkdir /mnt/mydir and mount on /mnt/mydir instead.

I try to change in the boot "rescuecd console=ttyS0" also "rescuecd console=ttya" without success.

I try to boot with networking but I can't work neither. "rescuecd setkmap=es nodhcp eth0=192.168.107.7/24 gateway=192.168.107.1 rootpass=123456" No work.

Any help will be apreciate. Thanks.
Regards

I don't know the sparc version.
console=ttyS0 switch the console to the comport.

You can try the minishell option and check why the network setting fail.

Hello Gernot,

thanks for your help. Do you know how I could get the minishell option? Is a parameter in the rescuecd command at boot time?
