Network adapter driver problem [solved]

Postby martin226 » 11 Jan 2013, 17:52

Hello,

This is my first time to look for help on any forum but I really cant solve this problem alone.

I have a pretty old Sony Vaio VGN-FS550 laptop and I want to reinstall it and make it usable again. Now with reinstalling it there were two problems that I encountered: The CD drive is broken and USB booting isn't possible. So the only way I could install a new windows is by PXE network boot. And I started searching for help about setting a server etc. and I successfully booted the Windows XP setup through PXE network boot with help from Serva 2.0.0 and my router DHCP server. But after Windows XP setup loading I get an error that I don't have the needed network adapter drivers on my Windows XP copy and that the setup can't continue. So now I went and downloaded the drivers from the laptop support site but they were in an unextractable *.exe file so I found another ones that were extractable on the Intel site for the same Intel® PRO/100 VE network adapter but here comes the real poblem. I dont really know which ones should I put in the \$OEM$\$1\Drivers\NIC folder and when I experimented with some of them I would get one of these two things, either it would stop and show me the old "the setup can't find the network adapter drivers" or the windows setup would just load all the files and in the end it would say "Setup will now run Windows XP" (even though It didn't install anything or ask me anything) and start my old Windows XP that I have on the computer which by the way is damaged and starting it results in a Blue Screen error.

So I ask you people, what should I do to get this problem solved ?

Thank you all in advance :)

P.S. tell me if you need anymore information so I can provide it to you as soon as possible...

It would be better to ask this question to a windows group.

Try to start the plop bootmanager via PXE. It can boot fron USB devices without BIOS support.
