Boot hard disk install under Windows 7 & 10

Post in this forum for problems at boot time, if there was no problem for burning the disc. For example can't find the CD, or strange errors when you press enter at the very first prompt.

Boot hard disk install under Windows 7 & 10

Postby sttgierr » 17 Dec 2016, 21:59

Just want to report an error in documentation concerning installation on hard disk under Windows7 & 10.
the line " C:> bcdedit /set {id} device boot "
should read " C:> bcdedit /set {id} device partition=C: "
That fixed my problems with loading grub4dos from the Windows bootloader under both Win7 & Win10.
The recipe given in the documenation is supposed to work in Vista/2008. Perhaps it is so - I don't have any Vista installation to give it a try.
Obviously partition=C: should be adjusted to account for the actual letter assigned to the Windows boot partition.
And a remark. These days there is almost always a small hidden system partition placed on the disk just in front of the Windows boot partition.
Therefore in menu.lst one should rather use:
root (hd0,1)
Otherwise a great software!!!
Cheers,
Stan
