USB only boots to GRUB command line

Post in this forum for problems at boot time, if there was no problem for burning the disc. For example can't find the CD, or strange errors when you press enter at the very first prompt.

USB only boots to GRUB command line

Postby estvnarcher » 12 Nov 2015, 20:32

I burned a dvd using the system rescue iso file and it boots to a graphic interface.
I then load it on to a 32-gig thumb drive and it will only come up with a grub command line
and I can't figure out what command will get me to the graphic interface, or why it
doesn't boot like the dvd. I've loaded the thumb drive several times using different loading
options--loading programs, terminal commands, etc, but I can't get it to boot like the dvd.

Never mind. Burned and ran a Super Grub 2 (Hybrid) disk and it corrected the problem (whatever it was).
Options I ran in Super Grub 2:
1. Detect and show boot method
2. Disks and Partitions (Chainload)
(hd0)

Correction! Only works if I have the hard drive (windows 8/Ubuntu dual-boot) physically disconnected.
Otherwise, it stills goes to GRUB command line. Just have to fine the right grub command, I guess.
