3.8.1 hangs on mounting /dev/sda

Post in this forum for problems at boot time, if there was no problem for burning the disc. For example can't find the CD, or strange errors when you press enter at the very first prompt.

3.8.1 hangs on mounting /dev/sda

Postby LAZA » 30 Oct 2013, 15:51

Hai everybody,

i got a
Lenovo 3000 G530
with an internal HDD, which might be defective.

While 3.8.0 from USB and 3.3.0 from CD booted without problems, 3.8.1 stops/hangs while populating(?) the internal HDD.

attempting to mount device: /dev/sda

I tested the USB-Stick on another machine (Lenovo L512), there was no problem or error at all.
Tested different boot options (32/64 bit), always the same error .

The HDD itself had no problems and worked flawlessly with both older SysResc versions (even no pause/stop at mounting /dev/sda).

I had to give the Notebook back, so now further investigation is possible.
Thanks for the notice, if there was an change please look into it again.

Mount with automatic filesystem detection try to find UDF structures.
If a partition or drive is blank this takes very much time.

Use skipmount=/dev/sda skipmount=/dev/sda1 if you have such a device.

Thanks for your fast response, Gernot!

This could be the problem cause i formated the HDD and so it is blank.

If i got it again in my hands, i will keep it in my mind and try again and stop the time.

The complete device is read.
Calculate a long time.
device_size/reading_speed
