Broken USB installation 1.7.0.-beta013 - IsoLinux 4.01

Post by markmarques » 27 Dec 2010, 12:57

Hi ...
Just to report that the latest ISO betas 1.7.0-xx
are not installable by using the sysrescccd-installer 1.1.2 in a USB stick...

Although sysresccd-installer does not report any error and the files are copied correctly into the USB ...
If I try to boot I only get the "Sys Linux" version screen
and a dead keyboard lock (meaning "No keyboard" response ...)
All the files were copied and readable the USB simply does not boot correctly.
If I try with the 1.6.4 version (last one I have ) everything is fine ...

Any ideas ?
If I try to use the Unetbootin mode I have to manually edit the Menus to point to the correct paths ... :(
Comments ?

I've also tryed to install version 1.7.0-beta13 on two different usb sticks that I usually utilize with Systemrescuecd: no matter if I transfer the ISO image with windows installer 1.1.2 or with the included linux bash script! The boot process from usb-stick stops before the first screen to choose booting options!

I hope this is a bug due to the new 4.0.3 version of isolinux bootloader.

Please verify it!

Tanks

After some tests, with unetbootin 4.94 in order to put the sysresccd 1.7.0-beta013 in an USB stick.
Only partially sucessful ...
Although I do get a working Menu with the diferent Img files ( ntpasswd, AIDA, NDT, MEMTEST) ,
if I try to launch them they are working ...

So, with Unetbootin with get only the external IMGs programs working ...

But for my dismay no specific System Rescue Menus appear ...

For some strange reason in the HDT I noticed that the Syslinux were 3.84 ,
where the string with the problem reports as being 4.01 ...

Update: it seems that UnetBootin simply ignores the isolinux/ syslinux present in the 1.7.0 ISO
and by forces the syslinux 3.84 or 3.86 version ...

Comments ?
Does anyone have put with success Sysresccd 1.7.0-beta in a USB stick ..?

Thanks for your bug report. I have downgraded isolinux/syslinux in SystemRescueCd-1.7.0-beta014,
Is that working now ?

Tank you Admin! Very nice!

Now, with the old syslinux all goes well and the boot process is full and complete, also with the other options activated (in particular with the default not US keyboard choice).

A friend tells me that in other cases (in particular trying to boot from a usb stick an UBUNTU distro with the old syslinux ver) he had problems like this and that he tryed with a certain success to change some parameters into the syslinux folder (he says me to remove UT parameter but I'm not shure because I don't know well syslinux usage).

Have everyone nice Christmas holiday!!

(Solved) Re: Broken USB installation

Sorry for the delay ...
I confirm that the 1.7.0-beta014 is now installable in USB with the "old" syslinux.

Although I suppose that we could try to figure out
what is happening with the new isolinux / syslinux 4.01 ...

If I have the time I will try (using the beta013) to check what is happening...
Thanks in advance...

Would it be possible to update the syslinux package to the latest version 4.03 ?

I have downloaded the files from original site and even tried to put them inside the ISO
sys 1.7.0 beta 013 ( latest version with syslinux 4.01)
but due to some lack of knowledege and
because I am in a "windowz" enviroment I were unable to compile the files correctly ... :(

So am writing this if possible to update the syslinux / isolinux to the 4.03 version in the next beta ...

Or at least give a pointer (instructions ) in how can I "update" the ISO image with the latest syslinux in order to test the boot ...

Thanks in advance

I prefer leaving the old version for the moment as it's not required and we had problems with that.
We can attempt another upgrade in few months time when the new version is more mature.
