Re: GParted 0.30 and ... SystemRescue project dying ???

I'm emotionally connected to sysrescd because it has helped me a lot in the past. Is there any way that I can help? I'm not a developer but I have some experience with Linux and open source.

Does the installer for Windows wipe the usb drive clean?

Hi all,

I haven't used System Rescue CD for years so please forgive the silly question.

I have a 16GB usb flash drive with 4GB space left. I'd like to install System Rescue on this drive non-destructively. Is that possible? Thanks.

Re: Has anybody successfully resized a NTFS partition recent

I had such a problem some time ago and field bug reports at gparted forum. Filesystem was Fat32 on a USB stick. One problem is that I dont find why the filesystem is broken. Linux worked perfect with the resized filesystem while windows ask to format the device. Gernot Yes, I've been following that...

Has anybody successfully resized a NTFS partition recently

I resized a NTFS partition in 2013 to make room for Netbsd and I used an old version of GParted. Everything went absolutely fine. Recently I used a newer version of Gparted to resize a FAT32 usb disk and it ended up in massive filesystem corruption. I know that FAT is not NTFS, but I don't want to t...

Re: Data corruption gparted on a USB-Stick srcd4.5.1beta4

Yes, I followed the thread. I could be wrong but my feeling is that the folks at Gparted cannot be bothered. Any chance that SysrescCd will revert to the old libparted version?

In the meantime I'll probably revert to an old version of SysRescCd.

How to check for real size of flash/ssd/mccard drive?

Is there a sure and authoritative way to check for the real size of a cheap usb flash or mc card bought on Ebay?

Is there a specific tool for Linux? Or can I just test it using "dd"?

Any idea is appreciated.

Re: How to resize a vfat/fat32/fat16 partition correctly?

Apparently new versions of libparted cannot resize vfat partitions properly. The folks at Gparted cannot be bothered to edit Gparted to display a warning for vfat partitions. I will raise a feature request to remove Gparted from SystemRescueCD.

Re: How to resize a vfat/fat32/fat16 partition correctly?

i can second this Problem. After shrinking the partition on the stick and creating a second partition it work well under linux but XP dont find the filesystem. Sorry for that, but at least I'm not the only one. The device had a syslinux boot record and showed a FAT warning after writing a MBR. It w...

Re: How to resize a vfat/fat32/fat16 partition correctly?

I'm using systemrescuecd-x86-4.5.1. No, the partition was not mounted before. I've done this with previous versions (last one I downloaded in 2013) and resized fat32 usb drives with no errors. There was plenty of free space. I made a new partition of 4GB. After rebooting the usb was not recognized b...

Re: How to resize a vfat/fat32/fat16 partition correctly?

Hi Gernot (and by the way I'm still not receiving any notifications and my email is valid), Got you error messages while resizing the partition? No error messages during partitions. Have you the gparted log? Unfortunately not, but it said that all operations were successful. Tried this on there diff...

How to resize a vfat/fat32/fat16 partition correctly?

Hello all, up until a few days ago I had an old version of SysResCD ( a couple of years ago), with which I was able to shrink fat32 partitions on my many usb drives, using Gparted. A couple of days ago I have updated to the latest SysRescCD, presumably also upgrading Gparted. Since then, all my oper...
