Vim is missing pod.vim in syntax

vim has been complaining about lack of syntax files for perl for some versions now, and I had assumed that the syntax files had been removed for space saving. However I was making a custom tonight and decided to add the syntax files back in, to my surprise they are mostly there except for pod.vim so...

Re: How to mount(?) thumb drive?

While I may be misunderstanding the question, I think we probably have a non Linux person who needs instructions for using mount. The simple (but not necessarily useful :-) ) answer is from a command prompt or xterm type mount /dev/sdd1 /mnt/custom which mounts a USB key on my system (on /dev/sdd1) ...

Re: Network Manager freezes with acpi=off

I suspect (but don't know for sure) that you are hosed. The various nos (nodhcp, nonm, etc.) haven't worked since 3.x something. I think (but again don't know for sure) that the addition of udev broke the lot of them. I remember reading the last time I poked at this (a year or two ago) on the gentoo...

4.8.1 Netsurf [solved]

Since there are no changes listed so far I'll report this as a beta issue even though it is in the latest release. Booted from the 4.8.1 rescueCD and ran Netsurf while waiting for an md5deep to finish. Attempted to login to the forums to answer a question but get this when clicking the login icon: W...

Re: Fsarchiver and partimage dev status

I believe partimage development stopped some years ago and the rescuecd version is only for old archives used it. The function has been replaced by partclone which is still being developed. Don't know anything about fsarchiver, perhaps someone else will know.

Re: Partition sizes changed and system slowed down.

This has the feel of disk corruption or hardware failure about it. As well as checking SMART as gernot suggested, look over /var/log/messages (unfortunatly I don't have an example of a disk retry / read-write error to hand) looking for disk errors. If the disk or controller are shaky and causing ret...

Re: partition cloning question

Its good that you got it working finally. A few parting comments though, clonezilla uses partclone to do the work so you were still using the underlying tools (although the user interface may be better, I haven't used clonzilla). As to Windows, its problems are likely that the boot sector (partition...

Re: partition cloning question

Unfortunatly the only way I've ever managed to move (as opposed to increase the size of) a Windows partition is to reinstall from scratch. Windows is basically brain dead around that issue :-). You could allocate the extra space as a D: drive in Windows and at least be able to use the space. Peter V...

Re: simplebackup perl script

Thank you! The addition of the code flags has made it back to human readable as well. I've gone back and edited the posts and learned something new at the same time.

Re: simplebackup perl script

Well its better than it first appeared, while the post software seems to have stripped the formatting if you copy and past the 5 posts in to a single file perl doesn't seem to care about the formatting and it appears on a quick test to still run OK. Either a pretty printer or a manual format should ...
