There is no "kernel" command in grub2. Memdisk tools should be loaded with linux16 like this: menuentry 'Gag' { set root='(hd0,1)' linux16 /isolinux/memdisk floppy initrd16 /bootdisk/gag.img } I can confirm that this works, with the latest SysRescCD at least. I can also confirm that I am ...

Yes, Linux is bootable. I can also boot any of the non memdisk tools (i.e. - memtest). It's only the memdisk tools that don't work.

And yes, the paths are correct in my config.

I just got around to testing this. What you posted did not work either. My test boxes all simply rebooted when configured as you posted above. I also tried the following, which is closer to the syslinux boot config. It did not work either: menuentry "Gag" { linux /isolinux/memdisk initrd=/...
