Re: USB install failed: unsafe /tmp/ permissions??????

The "wizard" mode failed on three consecutive boots. I tried it again today, twice, and the "wizard" mode worked. Go figure.

Re: USB install failed: unsafe /tmp/ permissions??????

It works with the sticky bit, but is that really so, so very necessary? And couldn't the error message have been clear, as opposed to cryptic? Now it works, but the "wizard" graphical environment isn't working. It fails and I spot the error message "cannot find a screen" or words to that effect in t...

Re: USB install failed: unsafe /tmp/ permissions??????

Well, I tried remounting /tmp with exec set, ran the script again and it still doesn't work. Same error message. It's broken.

Re: sysresccd-usbstick and USB HDD

Is that hard disk partitioned? Sorry if it's a stupid question, but I do notice that you don't mention any partitions. Did you try to instal SRCD on /dev/sdb1, or what?

Re: How to access my HDD partition after i install sysresccd

Any live boot CD may work depending on what you want to do. Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva and countless other distros have live boot CDs that may be enough for your needs. They will boot up, detect all or most of your hardware and put you in a warm and fuzzy graphical environment. What is different about...

Re: How to access my HDD partition after i install sysresccd

System Rescue CD doesn't have what you want. You'll have to learn to use the command line. Run the cfdisk command, that will show your entire partition layout, and you should be able to identify the partitions you want to access either by size or by label. If you only have one partition, that partic...

Re: GSmartControl - HDD checker

while gsmartcontrol looks eye candy to gui users, remember that most sysrcd users are experienced admins who prefer the command line. every tool which duplicates functionality and comes with larger package size should be avoided, imho.... Good point. But I think that a rescue CD should cater to as ...

Googleware is evil. I am pretty sure there is some kind of privacy breaching code in that browser. It's what Google does. It's their job.

Re: ISO Image Booter

I would love that feature, too. I know of a currently discontinued Brazilian live CD distro called Kurumin that used to have a menu with several options at boot, including Default (live distro), memtest and booting from an image, provided the ISO image contained the same kernel. It was version 5 and...

Re: USB Boot Problems

I can't understand what the things from the screenshot come from. The windows installation stuff does not come from SystemRescueCd. What are you talking about? Isn't that the ntpasswd boot option, supposed to recover/delete Windows XP passwords? I am pretty sure it is. That's what it says it does o...

Re: USB Boot problems - 1.5.4

OK, the fix provided by Coastie really works. The menu gets a little messy, the Default option still falls back to ntpasswd , but the rest of the "CD" (USB stick) works well with the altker23 option. I spent quite some time testing it, the result is very good. Now I can even use my Wifi connection! ...

Re: USB Boot Problems

What you have in the picture is the ntpasswd kernel booting.

That one doesn't work too well either. The screen says that you should be able to get away with it just pressing Enter for the defaults, but I get stuck right in the second or third question.
