Re: Inclusion of Mondo?

Have you already looked at Clonezilla (http://clonezilla.org/)? It seems to fulfill all 10 points, except single file restore, but I guess you'll have to try hard to find one able to...

Typos/obsolete options

On the PXE Network Booting tutorial http://www.sysresccd.org/Sysresccd-manual-en_PXE_network_booting I found the following typos and obsolete options: 1) "The PXE boot process", point 6.: ...(rescuecd + rescuecd .igz)... should read ...(rescuecd + initram .igz)... 2) "Steps to configure PXE on the s...

Re: pxebootsrv fail to launch dhcp if NetManager already sto

I ran into exactly the same problem as steph123456. pxebootsrv explicitely stops the NetworkManager on line 155 (sysresccd 1.6.2), which shuts down the network-interfaces, hence inhibiting dhcpd and almost probably any subsequent network-daemon from starting. Two questions arise therefrom: 1) Is it ...

Re: PXE-pitfalls with sysresccd 1.5.3 on usbkey

I finally have some good news: Before you fixed it, the script /etc/init.d/pxebootsrv did not know it also had to check for sys linux etc. Now, there must be some other script running at boot time, responsible for copying those directories in the "docache" case; does that script know about sys linux...

Re: PXE-pitfalls with sysresccd 1.5.3 on usbkey

Sorry if I confused the things a little, I try to be more precise: /etc/init.d/pxebootsrv expects the directories bootdisk, iso linux and the file iso linux/ iso linux.cfg underneath /livemnt/boot. 1) When booting 1.5.3/1.5.4 with the boot option "docache" those directories and file are completely m...

PXE/NFS-pitfall with sysresccd 1.5.4 on usbkey

While trying to boot via PXE/NFS I ran into the problem below. Premises: - Using sysresccd 1.5.4. - Installed on usbkey as per http://sysresccd.org/Sysresccd-manual-en_How_to_install_SystemRescueCd_on_an_USB-stick#Third_manual_method:_installation_from_Windows . - sysresccd PXE-server configured acc...

Re: PXE-pitfalls with sysresccd 1.5.3 on usbkey

Since we are at it, addendum to pitfall 1: Dropping the boot option "docache" from the premises causes the usbkey to be mounted on /livemnt/boot; hence /livemnt/boot/syslinux and /livemnt/boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg becoming available, well, but not exactly what /etc/init.d/pxebootsrv is expecting......

Re: No keyboard input when asking for keymap while PXE-booti

Yes, same problem with all kernels rescuecd, rescue64, altker32 and altker64. Other distributions do not usually explicitly offer a keymap selection dialog during boottime.

Re: No keyboard input when asking for keymap while PXE-booti

I'm sorry I have to correct myself: The problem is not related to PXE-booting as I initially thought, but rather to my machine. I'm using a laptop keyboard (HP Pavilion dv2440, PXE-client); the problem persists with sysresccd 1.5.4, but both when booting locally and when PXE-booting; no problem in t...

Re: PXE-pitfalls with sysresccd 1.5.3 on usbkey

Pitfall 2 is fixed in sysresccd 1.5.4, /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg is now automatically created; pitfalls 1 & 3 persist. Pitfall 3 could easily be fixed simply adding 'i' on line 128 of /etc/init.d/pxebootsrv resulting in: sed -i -e "s!append!append scandelay=5 netboot=$PXSBOOTSRV_HTTPSERVER!g i " /tftpb...

rsnapshot & PLoP

What about adding rsnapshot http://rsnapshot.org/ (backup utility) and PLoP http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html (bootmanager) to sysresccd?

Re: Initscript pxebootsrv fails

In /etc/init.d/pxebootsrv you replace "append" with "append scandelay=5 netboot=$PXEBOOTSRV_HTTPSERVER". That does no longer work as "append" is written in upper case letters. Manually add those boot options at the bootprompt: .linux rescuecd scandelay= 5 netboot=x.y.z.a - ... Or replace append for...

PXE-pitfalls with sysresccd 1.5.3 on usbkey

Thought this might be useful to anybody trying to PXE-boot. Premises: - Using sysresccd 1.5.3. - Installed on usbkey as per http://sysresccd.org/Sysresccd-manual-en_How_to_install_SystemRescueCd_on_an_USB-stick#Third_manual_method:_installation_from_Windows . - Started with default boot options + do...

No keyboard input when asking for keymap while PXE-booting

While booting sysresccd 1.5.3 from a PXE server, when it asks to choose a keymap it does not accept any keyboard input, i.e. it does not echo whatever I type, waits 20 seconds and takes the default keymap (us); beyond that everything works fine. When booting the same sysresccd locally, the desired k...
