No video output on boot

I'm not sure which kernel options are missing for the SystemRescueCD kernel but I've got a laptop (with UEFI boot) which boots into black screen no matter which options I choose (including nomodeset and i915.modeset=0). I presume it's CONFIG_FB_SIMPLE but I'm not sure. Probably it's a bug in ArchLin...

ZSTD compression

Here's a new avenue to explore for you, Francois. You're currently compressing the image using XZ which offers a great compression ratio however it's really slow to decompress especially on weak hardware. Please look into ZSTD. It offers comparable compression however it's up to 100 times faster dur...

SystemRescueCD alternative, Fedora LivePower

Don't know what happened to SystemRescueCD developer (hopefully he's alive and doing well) but I guess people will be interested in a similar distro which is kept up to date by its developer. Fedora LivePower - a Fedora based SystemRescueCD alternative. It uses Linux 5.3.16 and the most recent versi...

Re: Regarding 64-bit-only Support

You can always use version 5.3.2 on older PCs.

All the x86 CPUs released in the past 10 years are fully x86-64 compatible, so I really doubt there's any sense in supporting an outdated architecture.

Re: wimlib

p7zip can perfectly open wim archives. I really doubt we need utils to create them in this LiveCD.

Shrinking SystemRescueCd 6

I've found several ways to shrink SystemRescueCd 6: Most people who use it don't need translated man pages and translated commands, so almost the entire /usr/share/locale directory might be wiped and all language specific directories under /usr/share/man/$lang . The former currently occupies more th...

Making System Rescue CD great again, sorry, slim [solved]

I've noticed that recent ISO images of sysresccd have become substantially larger without a comparable increase in a number of new applications/utilities/etc. I'd love to know why SysResCD comes with these features which have a very tangential relation to data recovery: Mesa drivers GTK 3.0 - I know...

Re: Can we get the Midori browser back?

I second this request. NetSurf doesn't work pretty much on every website where JS is used (and yes I know JS support is disabled by default, but when I enable it, JS doesn't work as in normal proven browsers). With NetSurf I cannot check my e-mail, cannot browse certain websites, etc. etc. etc. Plea...

Re: Lack of ClamAV

It has such a low detection rate it's hardly useful at all.

Read AV-comparatives. ClamAV misses more than 30% viruses in the wild. It's unacceptable.

1. Please update Midnight Commander to version 4.8.14.
2. Can you please build freetype with FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING? This patent has long become outdated.
3. XFCE appearance control panel is broken: Image

Re: GSmartControl - HDD checker

while gsmartcontrol looks eye candy to gui users, remember that most sysrcd users are experienced admins who prefer the command line. every tool which duplicates functionality and comes with larger package size should be avoided, imho.... We still have both parted & gparted here, so why not to incl...

Please remove epdfview

Please remove epdfview from SysRescCD.
It's slow, buggy, totally abandoned and no longer available upstream.
We should either replace it with evince compiled with a minimum dependencies set (as Debian have done), or maybe something like zathura suggested on Gentoo forums.
