Yes, it don't work on the bad PC.
Could you be more specific? E.g., Brand / model / motherboard?
It's hard to comprehend how 'acpi=off' couldn't work.
Anyone else with similar experience?

Re: PLEASE ENABLE POWER SAVE/SLEEP BY OPTION!

After researching this more, is Scruffy's (OP) and Gernot's problems caused by Linux talking to a buggy BIOS via APM (ancient, doesn't look like sysrcd has apmd) or ACPI? If that is true, simply disabling ACPI (kernel boot arg 'acpi=off') would be sufficient and allow suspend for the majority of us ...

Re: PLEASE DISABLE POWER SAVE/SLEEP BY DEFAULT!

While I understand the problem, the solution seems heavy-handed. I frequently need to secure-erase laptop SSD's (with TRIM support) using 'hdparm --security-erase'. To do this, the drive must be in an "unfrozen" state. Performing a suspend/resume is the easiest way to thaw the drive. Is there no oth...

Re: usb_inst.sh creates partition with TypeId=0x83 [solved]

This is NOT fixed in 3.1. My workaround steps to replace broken parted: [burn & boot CD] cd /dev/shm/ cp -vpr /livemnt/boot/. . # takes a few mins \cp -p /usr/sbin/parted usb_inst/ ./usb_inst.sh Also, the installer log shows a grub error - not sure if it's significant: ... Files have been successful...

Re: error in /etc/init.d/netconfig2

This error persists in 2.5.0.
Is there any point to submitting bug reports?

error in /etc/init.d/netconfig2 [solved]

This should be the right spot for bugreports - not Networking forum (see subject: resolv.conf contains "nameserver 8.8.8.8" instead of DHCP ns)

To briefly reiterate, there's an error in /etc/init.d/netconfig2 :

for curdev in ${NETDEVICES}

should be

for curdev in ${DHCPDEVICES}

Thanks!

Re: resolv.conf contains "nameserver 8.8.8.8" instead of DHC

Noticed this fix was not in 2.4.1... I think it's pretty obvious if you study /etc/init.d/netconfig2 that NETDEVICES is not the right variable to use.

Re: resolv.conf contains "nameserver 8.8.8.8" instead of DHC

I debugged this issue with 2.4.0 (been using 1.6.3 too long). I use PXE booting. When booting, there's about 25 lines of: netconfig2: Cannot get a DHCP address. Check the cables on the ethernet interfaces. There's an error in /etc/init.d/netconfig2 for curdev in ${NETDEVICES} should be for curdev in...

Re: autorun w/nfs broken 1.5.8

If I include on the boot line: initscript=portmap:start initscript=rpc.statd:start there is a minute-delay; the other console says: sysresccd /etc/init.d/portmap[3442]: portmap: waiting for sysresccd (50 seconds) ... 41 seconds ... 32 seconds ... Then my script runs. As a side-issue, my script runs ...

autorun w/nfs broken 1.5.8

trying to pxe-boot with: ar_source=nfs://darkstar:/configs/scripts/autoruns autoruns=0 almost works, but it says: fatal error: cannot mount (mount -t nfs darkstar:/configs/scripts/autoruns /var/autorun/mnt) ERROR: autorun failed to start When run manually: mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is ...

PXE boot failure - dns issues? 1.3.0

Previous 1.1.7 version network-booted via PXE fine...haven't upgraded in a while. When booting 1.3.0 via PXE, it fails to download sysrcd.dat from my webserver (http): wget: bad address '<hostname>' [repeated twice] 'ping <hostname>' results in same message. 'ping <server-ip>' succeeds (but use -c N...
