Booting from Disk (the new way)

I wanted to inform you that the way you describe booting sysrcd from disk in your manual isn't good. You will loose functionality that way. E.g. the pxebootsrv doesn't work anymore. This would be the right way: 1. Just copy the cd to your disk. 2. Place the 5 symlinks (rescue, rescue64, altker32, al...

Solved with some help of the Ubergeeks from the gentoo irc channel.

The script containing the BAD BAD lines is /etc/init.d/autoconfig.

Dunno yet if I can deactivate it at all or whether I should just remove the malicious lines.

OK, I now have identified that whenever I invoke

Code: Select all

rc
it will append another batch of the above lines. Still searching for the init.d script though that does that. Must be a bug.

Who can help?

/etc/conf.d/net

Hi, I am trying to setup my network on sysrcd on hard disk. Everything works fine until the reboot. At boot there must be a script that always appends config_eth0=( "none" ) config_eth1=( "none" ) config_eth2=( "none" ) config_eth3=( "none" ) config_eth4=( "none" ) to my /etc/conf.d/net. Where is th...

Well I have identified that this only applies to /etc/conf.d/net.

How can I stop that it writes in my /etc/conf.d/net at boot?

Problems with backstore feature

Hi, can it be that backstore actually merges files instead of replacing them? E.g. I edited /etc/conf.d/net to my needs. But after a reboot I get a merge of the default /etc/conf.d/net and the one created by me. That kinda sucks because it makes backstoring useless. Is there a hidden option to switc...

Problems booting from disk

Hi guys, can someone help me please. I am going nuts here. I tried for 20 hours now to boot SysRescCD from hard disk in a vmware 6.5 environment (testing before going live) but I cant get it to boot. It keeps telling me that /dev/sda1 is not a valid root device and if I don't specify root=/dev/sda1 ...
