Re: No xinetd???

Yeah, I used in.telnetd directly with the following command: while (( 1 == 1 )) ; do ; /usr/sbin/in.telnetd -debug ; done Also added pts/0 through pts/9 to /etc/securettys to allow logins as root via telnet and reset the password. Seems silly that inetd/xinetd aren't there, even though the configs f...

No xinetd???

I would like to give somebody remote access to a machine on my network, so I booted a box that does not yet have an OS using System Rescue CD 4.1.0. (Last version with clamav.) The net-setup script did not work to get the machine on our network, but configuring directly with ifconfig did. I then wen...

Re: ClamAV Dropped @ version 4.2.0 - 2014-04-15

Just realized that partimage & fsarchiver (both of which are critical to me) are specific to this distro. Looks like I'm either stuck on 4.1 (until the admin comes to his senses ;) ) or have to figure out how to modify the ISO to add clam back in. If I go the latter route, I'll release it somewhere ...

Don't know if the forums aren't working or if it's just this specific poll. (If you get my drift...)

Re: ClamAV Dropped @ version 4.2.0 - 2014-04-15

What the heck?!?? I use the system rescue cd at least once a day average, but usually don't upgrade unless there's something missing. I've been using my 4.0 disks for the past 2-3 years (which I was shocked to discover it's been that long... time truly does fly) and they finally gave up - 2 out of t...

Partimage - Utility to Read Image Description from Windoze?

I was wondering if there exists a windoze utility that will read/display information of a partimage image. I'm most interested in the description, but all of the image information would be good to have as well. The reason for this is that I use windoze to offload images onto a network unix server. E...

Re: Boot Errors - tpm_tis causes ~2 minute delay

Just tried 2.2.0 and the delay exists there as well. I figured 2.1.1 would not have the delay and so downloaded & tried that, only to find the same long delay. For giggles, I tried 2.1.0 (same as on the CD that breezed through the boot when the shroud was off the computer) and got the same type of e...

Re: Boot Errors - tpm_tis causes ~2 minute delay

Nevermind my last question about customizing the boot options - adding noload=tpm_tis to the boot line doesn't remove the delay.

Re: Boot Errors - tpm_tis causes ~2 minute delay

Sorry - didn't see your reply before posting again. Yes, I tried the alternate kernel in both 2.3.1 and 2.2.1; both had the same issue. I'm using sysresccd-installer-1.1.2.exe to install the SRCD to a flash drive as these desktops do not have an optical drive. Is there any way to set a default boot ...

Re: Boot Errors - tpm_tis causes ~2 minute delay

Interesting additional information. I tried 2.2.1 in the hope that the problem wouldn't exist there and that it'd narrow down the change that caused it. The delay is still there, but check out the time-stamps on the lines now: the bulk of the delay now happens on a different line. [2.546542] Linux a...

Boot Errors - tpm_tis causes ~2 minute delay

When I boot the latest (2.3.1) System Rescue CD on two different styles of Lenovo desktops, I get the following error. The boot continues, but it stalls out for about 2 minutes - seems like forever when waiting for it. The previous version I have burnt (2.1.0) does not have this trouble and flies th...

I would ask if I could have your old hard drive, but it's probably too small to be worth the $4.95 it'd cost to ship...

Re: I lost my images!

If you did not include a path to a mounted drive, the backup was created in whatever directory you were in when you invoked partimage. Unfortunately, this is probably /root and is only in RAM. If you power cycled your box since, the image is gone because it was created in volatile memory.

Re: Using SystemRescueCD for Backups to External Hard Drive

Neither of the tools you mention produces an exact mirror of the original drive. What they do is precisely what partimage does - looks at what's being used and creates an image of the drive that can be used to restore if needed. Since only the used portions of your drive are backed up, the files are...
