mmm, conflicting interrupts maybe ?

look at you pci irq assignment if the eth0 shares it's interrupt address with another hi-bandwidth adatper like soundcard.

if so you can free up some interupts by disable parallel or serial ports if you not using them.

if it's not physical, and ifconfig eth0 has still zero error count. it must be some ip config on your network. Are you really sure there is no ip-address conflict? you do not use fist or last ip-address of the network segment on any of your computers (eg 192.168.0.0 or 192.168.0.255)? all computers ...

lack of mac address in the arp table means that layer2 is not working properly. Try to use another cable or switch port to see of this helps. Proliant 1600 is an older machine, I cold not find the type of nic you are using but if your card support mii use the mii-tool to figure out how it's negotiat...

Not Supported dos not mean it can be done. Downloading the large sysrcd.dat to the computers memory (tmpfs) is not always the luxury available on all those sick computers. Iif you looking for a non-supported feature like share sysrcd.dat though nfs and you have some time to spare there is a way .......
