Clean up /dev

Early in boot process udev mounts tmpfs to /dev. Therefore the device files inside the squashfs image below /dev are not needed. Can we purge them?

This also makes it possible to unsquashfs the image without a lot of error messages without root privileges or on a filesystem mounted with nodev.

Re: NBD mounting by name

Ok, I added an up to date nbd-client myself. This is my script: #!/bin/sh INITRD="/srv/tftp/sysrcd/initram.igz" TMPDIR="/tmp/.initrd-${RANDOM}" NBD="http://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/i686/nbd/download/" rm -rf ${TMPDIR} mkdir -p ${TMPDIR} cd ${TMPDIR} xzcat ${INITRD} | cpio -id wget -O - $...

Re: udhcpc does not set address

Uah!

OK, I think I solved it...
I removed /usr before recompressing... udhcpc does not complain but silently fails if it misses anything.

Re: udhcpc does not set address

I investigated a bit further... The dhcp ethernet packets are identical (except the transaction ID). So it's not caused by any differences on the server side. What I just noticed: If udhcpc does not set the address (although stated so) it does not print a line about setting the default route. Myster...

udhcpc does not set address [solved]

Ok, I'm trying to update the nbd-client inside initram disk. This is the way to go: uncompress und extract initrd to tmeporary directory cp new nbd-client to temporary directory patch /init to call nbd-client with -name archive and compress initram disk Looks ok so far, except one thing: udhcpc does...

NBD mounting by name

Hello everybody! New nbd is supposed to mount shares via name. I would like to nuke "oldstyle" from my nbd server's config file... How about supporting this? I would suggest something like this: --- init 2011-07-21 12:10:30.261550417 +0200 +++ init 2011-07-21 12:13:58.566401605 +0200 @@ -961,8 +961,...

Re: USB install with minimal "pollution" of root directory

My solution to this is very simple: I've partitioned the usb drive. First partition is plain fat32 and does not need anything, second partition formatted with ext3 contains the sysrcd-file.
If you plug the drive into a Windows system... Nobody will notice there's anything special.

Re: autoruns from http don't work. Can't resolve domain name

I did not notice that so far... The reason is simple: I redirect the dns traffic to the local service on the gateway... :D
Perhaps this gives anybody a quick workaround.

please add media-gfx/exiv2

Hello everybody! I would like to see media-gfx/exiv2 on the system rescue cd. It can be very handy if you are searching for images with EXIF and/or IPTC metadata. I have a lot of images restored with testdisk/photorec - now I am searching for one of these thousands. Or is there any other image metad...

Named autoruns

Hello everybody, I have a lot of autorun scripts for various situations, counting up every now and then. ;) Managing them the way system rescue cd does is really a hassle! Having a lot of script files called autorun[0-9A-F] is really a stupid idea. I would like to see a feature I would call "named a...

freerdp

Hello everybody!

I would vote for replacing rdesktop with freerdp (http://freerdp.sourceforge.net/). Any chance?
remmina (http://sourceforge.net/projects/remmina/) for a GUI would be great as well. ;)

Chris

Re: Make SystemRescueCD available for download using zsync?

Any news on this?
I think this is only interesting for user downloading beta versions from time to time. So why not just put it on your own server like the betas? The "official" download link to SF for betas could remain.

Chris

The problem still exists with 1.6.0 final.
