How to install ntfsck for (USB-Media+backstore)

A Windows XP PC does not boot up and indicates a missing HAL.dll. Deeper inspection \ test with sysrescueCD: ntfs-3g required the force option in order to mount the NTFS partition. After partition was mounted, data was retrieved however attempts to access to C:\Windows indicated an error. I was inst...

Re: Windows Vista bootup diagnostic

Hi Gernot, Thank you for the good suggestions and questions: Get you a error message? No error message: when it boots, there is only a blinking cursor Is EZ Upgrade modifying the harddisk? I do not think it does. I tried cloning to the SSD with both EZ Upgrade and Clonezilla (both LINUX distros) and...

Re: gParted safe for shrinking NTFS (Win8)?

Greetings Gernot. Good to hear from you

The partition is working and there are no error messages. Win8 would not let me shrink small enough. Thank you for the good suggestions.

I decided that it was easier to reinstall the OS from recovery media. Keep up the excellent work with SysrecueCD.

Partimage: Selecting a Drive

Greetings, A neighbor has asked me to install Win7 on her computer. The drive is a SATA spinner (platters) 200GB. After I install Win7 and the drivers on the drive, I plan to save a Partimage file so that it can be quickly re-imaged in the future. I have a 120GB SSD drive: if I were to install Win7 ...

Re: Can not display / access SATA hard drive partition

I experimented with other SATA drives and it seems that this particular SSD drive is the only one that is not recognized by sysrescueCD. SDSSDP-064G: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171645 Hopefully, this is enough information that can be used to improve sysrecueCD?

Re: Boot Error:

Thank you for the reply and question: This is a USB 2.0 connector

I unable to reproduce the error. Sometimes the screen displays an array of colors and I have to reboot. Sometimes it boots up properly. If I can get to dmesg, I will post the results.

Merci beaucoup Gernot! I look forward to visiting your fine country next month: Liberté, égalité, fraternité.

I was able to recovery 140 photos. Not sure why the Sandisk micro SD failed, however, I am relieved / thankful that I could recover the photos!

Bootable USB memory stick: NTFS (not FAT)

I have a large USB memory stick formatted with the FAT system and is bootable with sysrescuecd. Is it possible to build a NTFS bootable sysrecue USB device? I am hoping that someone with more experience than me will either report that they have done this, or can demonstrate that it can be done.
