Re: Windows Vista bootup diagnostic

I do not know if the original poster did solve the issue but recently I did have a similar problem and despite being able to check both HDD MBR and and PBR ( bootblock) Windowz still did not boot ... A solution was to use the original Vista Install CD I made a "parallel" installation ( different Win...

Probable Unix filesystem HDD

Hi, recently I got to recover a SCSI HDD from an old machine. The HDD was recognized by the sysrescue but I do not know ho to access the contents ... Using Testdisk gave the information of a SCO/ Unix partition type ... I have made an image using ddrescue ... If I "blindly" try to mount the HDD the ...

Re: USB boot problem and how to make it work...

Yes ... Sometimes despite the fact that everything is apparently OK the USB is unable to boot... Recently I had a similar problem and I get this fix: If an USB pen does not boot with "missing operating system" it is simply solved with a full format in order to redefine the bootblock ... Most of the ...

Re: sata_sis module in kernel 2.6.35 - not recognize HDD (SS

More info regarding the previous problem... Aparently all distros with the latest kernel give me this problem... The dmseg util reports errors such as : ata2: exception mask 0x2 action 0x2 frozen ata2: Status { DRDY} with the older kernels I get this module info and everything is working correctly: ...

Re: sata_sis module in kernel 2.6.35 - not recognize HDD (SS

I will try the most recent beta 2.0.1 beta 002 but only tomorrow I will be online again ... :( I will return and post...

Re: sata_sis module in kernel 2.6.35 - not recognize HDD (SS

After some fiddling with other distros I figured that the previous problem (no HDD) is related to the sata_sis module in the latest Kernel ... 2.6.35 So I this specific lapto does not work correctly with the latest sata_sis module ... I know this forum is not the right place but ... would be possibl...

Re: USB boot problem and how to make it work...

By using the "Fedora tool" a new bootblock is created in the USB stick... So we can assume that the "original" USB bootblock were not bootable ... :) The system rescue installer uses the syslinux or isolinux bootblock ... By some strange reason it did no work with your USB stick ... The "usb Live to...

sata_sis module in kernel 2.6.35 - not recognize HDD (SSD)

Using Sysrescue CD 2.0.0 in an USB stick ... Platform: Notebook clevo with chipset SIS 671 (sata_sis) and a SSD OCZ Vertex 2 (S1) I had the need to use the "noacpi" option to identify and access an external USB disk .... The bizarre thing is this : Although it takes lost of time (1minute or so) to a...

Re: Broken USB installation 1.7.0.-beta013 - IsoLinux 4.01

Would it be possible to update the syslinux package to the latest version 4.03 ? I have downloaded the files from original site and even tried to put them inside the ISO sys 1.7.0 beta 013 ( latest version with syslinux 4.01) but due to some lack of knowledege and because I am in a "windowz" envirom...

(Solved) Re: Broken USB installation

Sorry for the delay ... I confirm that the 1.7.0-beta014 is now installable in USB with the "old" syslinux. Although I suppose that we could try to figure out what is happening with the new isolinux / syslinux 4.01 ... If I have the time I will try (using the beta013) to check what is happening... T...
